Mrs. Ruckman's Classroom News
Welcome to Mrs. Ruckman’s Class. This year we will be doing a variety of activities that will help students expand their knowledge.
What is an AVID Class?
The AVID Language Arts and Science classes address the high curriculum standards that students face today. Homework will consist of projects, reports, essays, and book reports that will meet the Common Core State Standards. Your student will learn new skills that will help them be successful in the future.
This year the Avid Class will focus on Focus Note Taking and Organizational Skills. Basically, these are skills everyone needs to know.
Advancement Via Individual Determination
Avid is a college readiness system designed to increase the number of students who enroll and persist in colleges and universities.
Avid focuses on College and Career Readiness.
How to help your child do well in School...
- Arrive to online school early, not just on time.
- Establish regular bedtimes.
- Help keep your child organized. Remind them to keep their learning area organized.
Parents are the “First Teachers!”
For students to be successful, please limit all online or game station gaming to the weekend only. Many students stay up too late and spend too much time in the online world.

Language Arts: Book Reports
Monthly Book Reports
Every student is expected to read a novel at home for a book report. Book reports are due the last Friday of the month. This book is not the novel we are reading in class. Books that have been made into movies are not accepted. If in doubt, get the book approved. Online books will be available.
